Hedera

Description: Varieties of Hedera helix (English Ivy) are underrated as houseplants. Ivies come with many different leaf shapes and sizes and there are some beautiful variegated varieties. They are also one of the easiest plants to grow indoors. They can form long trailing stems or be kept compact with regular pruning. Ivies are rated as one of the top 10 indoor plants for removing air pollution. Ivies are classified as follows: V = Variegated ivies with multicolored leaves of green, gray, white or yellow. B F = Birds Foot Ivies. The leaves have narrow lobes and usually the terminal lobe is longer than the others. F = Fans. The leaves are broad and fan-shaped. C = Curlies. The leaves are ruffled or rippled. H = Heart Shaped. Leaves are heart or shield-shaped. I = Ivy. Typical five-lobed, ivy-shaped. O = Oddities. Plants with unusual stems or leaves. M = Miniatures. Leaves are less than 1 inch in size.

Description:: A very distinctive Ivy. Leaves are five-lobed, dark green and shiny. The leaf margins curl upwards.

Description:: Deep green, very slender, five-lobed leaves. The terminal lobe is very slender and elongated and the basal lobes point backward. A delicate looking ivy.

Description:: The leaves are five-lobed. The terminal and lateral lobes are broadest at the middle, such that the lateral lobe has a striking diamond shape. The leaf folds upward while the tips fold downward. A very distinctive look.

Description:: Bright green three-lobed leaves. The terminal lobe is the longest with a rounded tip. The two lateral lobes fold upward toward each other along the center. Forms long runners.

Description:: Medium-sized, five-lobed leaves with the terminal lobe about twice as long as the lateral lobes. Self-branching and a vigorous grower.

Description:: Leaves are arrowhead-shaped and medium green in color. Forms long runners. Easy to grow.

Description:: A sport of Shamrock, compact growth habit with highly variable leaves. Leaves are usually three-lobed, but this can vary. Leaf color is medium gray with gray or white marbled areas. Slow grower.

Description:: A very striking variegated ivy. Leaves are fan shaped with narrow pointed lobes. The leaves are green with lovely yellow / gold margins.

Hedera hibernica 'Deltoidea' (H)

Description:: This used to be classified with Hedera helix, but is now thought to be a separate species. It is called the ‘sweetheart ivy’, as leaves are predominantly heart-shaped. The leaf color is a dark green with prominent pale veins. Forms long runners.
